27 July, 2010
The "new" Wasilla Police Chief, Chief Mike Hughes,  was invited and will be attending tomorrow evening's Forum.  Mike was born and raised in North Calolina, and comes to Wasilla from Texas.
I dropped by His office this morning and had an in-depth discussion, including "a welcome to the neighborhood" and a discussion of both our existence and our mission as a 2ATF.  Mike is excited with the opportunity and looks forward to meeting all in attendance!

Also, after three weeks of good ideas, and some serious good ole head scratching, the Family survival list is completed and will be ready for pick up at tomorrow evening Forum.  This is a very comprehensive list, but as always is an open-ended and ready to be made better list.  So, bring your ideas for when we do an update- say in six months or so.
You won't regret coming, both for the meet & greet opportunity of Chief Hughes, and the Family prep list.  Hope to see you all tomorrow evening.

Mat-Su "open holster protest" at the Mat-Su U.A. Campus
28 APR 2010

" Today was absolutely fantastic on so many levels, at our 2ATF "empty holster protest" held at the Mat-Su U.A. Campus off Trunk Road.  We had 10 2ATF Members there through the first few hours.  The event was both welcomed, by the Campus Asst. Director Kristen Owens, and well received by the Students and Faculty who stopped by for a chat.  There was a good age spread for the folks who stopped by for information on the event, or just to chat.
The print media came by to report on the event, having been informed that we would be there.  I'll wait and see if, and to what extent, the Frontiersman covers the event, and how fair they will be.  They, the Frontiersman, are already on probation for their abject failure to carry our 2ATF meeting schedules in their Community Corner- at all.
The high point for the whole day had to be when Nick and I were packing things up getting ready to leave, and the Chair of the School of Business came and engaged us in a conversation stating "how impressed He was with everyone's conduct at the event" and "we had chosen the best way with which to get our point across- that being non-confrontational!"  That made Nick and I very pleased, to have gotten that reaction, and from an Administrator to boot.  And you each, who participated, should also feel good for your contribution and conduct.
I will again be there both tomorrow and Friday, from 11am-3pm, and should anyone wish to join me your participation would be both welcomed and appreciated, and besides I get lonely real  easy.  I figure that "the word" will spread around Campus and tomorrow's response may be even better.  Most everyone, when told the problem with carry and who had unconstitutionally implemented the policy, felt wronged and receptive to the idea of an SCCC Chapter on their Campus.
Anyway, well done everyone and again thank you all."

Patriots Day - Wasilla, Alaska from Christopher Gibbs on Vimeo.

The mission of the Second Amendment March is to galvanize the courage and resolve of Americans; to petition our elected officials against establishing anti-gun legislation; and to remind America that the Second Amendment is necessary to maintain our right to self defense.

It is the one right that protects all others.

We will accomplish our mission by a peaceful march in Washington DC, the United States Capitol, supported by satellite marches to State Capitols and smaller cities all across America.

The march in D.C. will take place on Monday, April 19, 2010 on the grounds of the Washington Monument.

Our Three alaskan 2ATF Groups are planning mirror-image events in our respective communities also on april 19th.

Events will begin with a rally, with invited guest speakers and readings, to be followed by a ½ mile march along the parks highway, concluding with a pot-luck picnic. Alaska's efforts are being supported by the National March Group, but we still need the support of our respective communities and citizens to bring this goal into being.

To the best that I could research;  presently HB 186 has been “read” in  the Judiciary Committee, but no action, as of yet in the Finance Committee.  Mike Kelly wrote and Sponsored the Bill, and 13 other Representatives have signed on as Co-Sponsors.

Now is the time when we all begin to “bombard” each of these Committee Members with e-mails and telephone calls showing our support for this Bill being passed!  Also, you may contact each Senator, individually, and “lobby” for them to Sponsor HB 186, again speaking of your support for this Bill being passed.

The 2nd Amendment: Can it get any simpler?

The language of the Second Amendment seems to me to be entirely uncomplicated: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

Yet the argument rages on year after year with one legal battle after another all coming down to one question: Does each American citizen have the right to own firearms or not?

One commentary on the Bill of Rights, published anonymously in the Pennsylvania Gazette in 1788, asked: "Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? ... Congress has no power to disarm the militia. Their swords are the birthright of an American. The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people."

If you know anything about the Founding Fathers you know that they believed in limited government and individual liberty. The Constitution thunders with the notion of individual liberty and that "the government is best which governs least." Any personal opinion or court decision about the Second Amendment should first apply this presupposition of limited government and individual liberty.

I only know of two categories of people who want to limit gun ownership: statists and criminals.

Statists are those who believe that each person’s life and work belong to the state and that the government should have unlimited power. So for them, a citizen with a gun represents way too much power. The other category of people who want citizens to be disarmed are criminals because that clears the way for easy looting and murder.

 DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS ARE STATISTS

DO NOT FALL FOR THE LEFT/RIGHT PARADIGM

The problem is that a criminal or a criminal government can do whatever it wants to if the citizens are unarmed. That’s why the Founding Fathers wrote this amendment.

If we are to keep our freedoms we must keep our right to bear arms.

***25 JAN 2010: OUR VOICE WAS HEARD***

The city council meeting tonight was defiantly more exciting than I had imagined it would be, out of the 40 or so people signed up to speak around 3 had negative things to say, which were carefully worded to seem like support, just not support for the location. Tonights meeting was simply our chance to voice support for the city of Wasilla to keep the gun range as a goal for this year, we will no doubt need to further impress the NEED and DESIRE to have this project considered not only as a goal, but as a priority!

One thing that I witnessed tonight that applaud me was when one of the council members (Mrs. Kaktus) suggested that there was a "leak"  and that the mayor had some how abused his power and should handle that "situation"; this was closely followed with the poorly delivered quote  "power is given, respect is earned". The word "leak" implies secrecy and covert meetings, this kind of thought process is outrageous coming from an elected official. No elected official anywhere should think in such a way that the business they conduct for their constituents is ever a private or secret matter, in fact it should be assumed that everything done while working as an elected official can, and is scrutinized by every person who has the interest to do so.

It was great to see all the new faces tonight and hear the testimony in support of the range, with continued support we WILL see this project through to completion.

Below is a picture of the mockup we have for the fire arm portion of the range:
